Let me start by saying I have no clue of an emergancy vet in my area that will see a ferret (AnimalFarm2006, Im going to PM you) so thats why I didnt go.
Last night Kahlua backed into a corner to use the bathroom and it wasnt a bathroom friendly corner so I went over to pick her up and put her in a bathroom friendly corner, when I started toward her she darted between my legs. The only thing she actually passed was a pea sized blop. Immediately this makes me nervous and I started fallowing her around. Everytime she backed into a corner I was there, she would start going but stopped in less than a second, litterally shed back up look like she was going to try to poop (not putting any effort, just like oh i was going to poop but the feelings gone now-- and so am i, lets play!) and then run away and attack my foot or Mojito as usual. Other than that she was fine- she was eating normally, drinking normally and playing normally. Her abdomen feels normal, not hard or bloated at all. I started getting nervous and i checked out her bum to see if there was anything hanging out (she had had this problem once before when i first brought her home and when i took her to my brothers friend who is in school to be a vet, he checked her out - in his apartment of course so not really officially - while hes checking her over he looked at me and kinda chuckled and then pulled an extremly long human, or perhaps horse since she lived in a ranch type area, from her anus. It had been hanging out and since i hadnt checked her bum i hadnt seen it, after he removed it she has been fine up until now)
When I looked at her bum last night she had nothing hanging out of it. I know that whenever i cut her nails I put ferretvite on her tummy so shes preoccupied and she always gets a little 'runny' after so I gave her some ferretvite to see if that'd help.. I know that you guys all put canned pumpkin (not pumpkin filling) in your soupies- I have to admit I havent been doing so, I can not find it to save my life. I am hoping she just needs help moving things along.... All this started maybe an hour or two after she ate a GIANT hunk of meat that made me nervouse since she hadn't really chewed it all that well. The ferretvite didnt help so I got onto my laptop (dont have internet at home) and looked into all my saved notes for holistic ferret treatment. The only thing I have on hand at home is the aloe vera juice (100% preserved in citric acid) and in my notes I had a bit saying that I could give her some of that. I did and about 10 mins later she backed into a corner to poop and actually pooped! It was normal color but very, very liquidy- like water pretty much. It didnt smell though. A little while later she passed something (same color) but peatnut butter-y consistancy and then passed some more liquid about 2a right before my fiancee convinced me to go to bed and leave the poor girl alone. If it matters she tried 4 times to poop unsucessfully before she had these three weird poops.
I just read that I can give her a 1/2 tsp of metamucil in some apple juice to help move things along if it is a blockage. I work the same hours as vets are open, like I said I dont know an emergancy vet in the area that will see a ferret. I would have to take a day off work to take her in and in order to do that i'd have to call out sick because i have to put 2 weeks notice for any other kind of day off and I sincerely doubt that my employer is going to see this with the same urgancy that I do. I will see what I can do but until then, would metamucil be ok if she is now having diarrhea? Would pumpkin be better? If she is eating and playing and her stomach isnt hard- is this a blockage or is this because I havent put anything in the soupie to 'move it along' or maybe the giant peice of meat she ate?
She hasnt pawed at her mouth, she doesnt seem to be in any discomfort, she isnt straining, she isnt vomiting, she isnt spacing out.. shes absolutely fine other than the inability to poo then having diarrhea. Please help!
