For those whom don't know, a boy I rescued had a bad tooth issue. The tooth was defective - slightly longer then the rest of the canines, wasn't places quite right and had a bit of a curve. Kind of like a snaggle tooth only this tooth had punctured his lip. He had a huge hole in the lip!! The tooth caused him pain and discomfort when trying to eat, and made it difficult to chew, he would grind his teeth each time when eating. Here is a pic of the tooth before surgery He had the tooth pulled today. Vet said it was a birth defect. It was way too bad to just file down so it had to go. The tooth was difficult to remove, it was very stuck in there but the vet got it out and did a great job with it! He has stitches in his mouth now. I was amazed on how large the tooth was, especially the root! I cannot understand how the root could be that big and fit in his mouth its crazy! In this pic the tooth is upside down.... The root is on the top (its pinkish), the canine part is at the bottom (the white portion). Can you believe how big that root is??

OMG!!! Not much wonder the poor boy was in pain It was probably hurting him at both ends, tip AND root. So glad the vet was able to remove it so cleanly. And here's to a speedy healing, and painless meals in the future!

The size of the root was the reason why my vet refused to remove Odin's upper canine. She said like cats ferret canine roots are long and sometimes cause more damage being removed. Odin had damaged his upper canine, the root had imbedded itself into Odin's sinus cavity and if removed would have probably set him up for recurring sinus infections. So we opted for alternative methods. I'm glad that Blitzen has come through his surgery well. I hope that the little fellow continues to heal well, it certainly will allow eating to be much easier for the poor wee lad.

That is incredible! WOW. O.O Poor Blitzen. Is he on duck soup for awhile? I remember when I had my oral surgery (impacted wisdom teeth cut out) and it was the worst thing I ever went through physically. Poor baby! I hope it heals well and doesn't get infected.

Blitzen already is feeling alot better with that tooth out! The hole in his lip isn't red and sore looking like it was, and it even looks like its starting to heal a bit! yay!! The stitches still look good, though one looks like it might be trying to work its way out. He also has not been grinding his teeth like he was when he goes to eat, woo hoo!!! and despite his mouth being sore where the tooth was taken he's able to eat better then before

I'm so glad. It's got to be such a relief for him not to have that tooth constantly hurting him. I can't believe he's remained such a loving ferret in spite of constant, chronic pain. Such a doll

Here is Blitzen's mouth 6 days after surgery. He's healing up nice and feeling so much better! He's not grinding his teeth like he was, he's chewing more normal, the hole in his lip is healing up, and he's able to eat pain free! Here you can see the hole is sealing up, its looking so much better! Here you can see the some of the stitches that are still in
