I never thought I would be doing this but I don't see another way to deal and I don't think it is fair to my babies. I'm looking for them a new home, not because I don't want or love them. But because about 9 months ago I got lymes disease. My life has just went down the drain, I have two kids and a husband I'm trying to care of along with my babies and I don't feel it is fair to them that they are not getting the love they were before. I want someone that loves on them everyday and gives them treat. Makes them feel loved, I just can't give that to them right now. I live in North East Md, I have a female and male. They are almost a year old. They are up to date on their shots, they are due in feb. Rintoo and LuLu! Rintoo is light black sable and Lulu is a cinnamon. They are both very very loving and neither bite, I trained them out of that!! If anyone is interested please let me know!! I do drive to west Chester once a week and could maybe meet. Please know this is not what I want to do, but I know it is what is right for them!!

If I lived closer, I would offer to accept them, but I live in FL. I'm sorry to hear about your predicament. I hope someone here could possibly take your babies in.

You realize that transport can be arranged to almost anywhere in the US and Canada (though I've never yet been able to import ferrets in this manner so far). Don't allow distance to make fuzzes go into shelters. There a groups of really wonderful people who volunteer their time and their vehicles to transport animals from one side of the country to another. ciao

If transport can be arranged as Heather said I would love to take them. I have actually been trying to get in contact with the ferret rescue here to adopt one or two more, but they seem to either not have any OR they don't care about finding homes all that much because they wont call me back. I live in NE Georgia. (Athens area) I personally can't drive there to pick them up due to my kids and my husbands work schedule. But if there is some one or a service that can transport for cheap.....I don't see why the hubby would be apposed. I currently have one little female that is about 6 months old. Her name is Miko. And I'm about to start the journey of switching her to a raw diet. I wouldn't know where to look to find transport.

I wonder if between all the members on the east coast, we can put together a relay type system to transport them? I'm south in Tallahassee, FL so I wouldn't be much help, but i'm sure there's members on the east coast that would volunteer to drive a few hours

Ferrets Across America will transport ferrets for rescue/re-homing situations. I'm not sure of all the situations they will cover, but I recommend contacting them to find out if they can help. You may need to work with a shelter to qualify as a "transfer of a ferret from a shelter to a forever home". It's certaining worth looking into. -jennifer pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/Ferrets_Across_America/

I was going to foster a couple of ferret's for a forum friend when she wound up out of a job. They were quite willing to transport from northeastern US to Western Canada, but couldn't get all the legs of the journey filled before she had to be out of her place. Write them. It can take several days for them to get back to you, but it's all volunteers.

I jointed the group (though I may have to cancel because I can't be a driver) and this is one of the e-mails they sent about transporting ferrets.
Ferrets in need of transport must meet the following requirements in order to be eligible for transport:
- Ferret(s) must be 16 weeks (4 months) of age or older
- Must be up to date on vaccinations (distemper & rabies)
- Must be ADV tested prior to transport; results must be negative. The only test results we will accept are United's CEP or Avecon's ELISA (send in saliva test). Avecon's ELISA blood test and POCT will not be accepted.
- Must have a clean bill of health OR if ferret has a known health issue (adrenal) it MUST be disclosed to the director on the transport request form.
- Must be free of external/internal parasites and any communicable disease (ECE, etc)
- Must be spayed/neutered
- Any behavioral issues such as biting should also be disclosed to the director
- Proof of current vaccinations, health certificate, and ADV test results must be faxed to the director before any transport request will be considered.
- Must have a carrier equipped with food dish, water bottle, bedding, and litterbox (must also be traveling with extra food and water; feel free to send extra litter, especially if the ferret will have to be overnighted along the way)
Please note:
**We will NOT transport any ferret that has insulinoma under ANY circumstances ***No ADV- ferret will be transported into a known ADV+ home ****We will not transport ferrets into FFZ's(ferret free zones...areas where ferrets are illegal)

Here is the USPS requirements for shipping animals....
521 General Requirements
The full cooperation of the mailer is essential in order to safely and effectively transport animals through the mail. The following factors are applied to all shipments of mailable live or dead animals:
1. Protection of Postal Service employees and the public against harm from dangerous or diseased animals. 2. Protection of the mail and the environment against the following: 1. Damage to the shipping container or other mailpieces from either the animal or the refrigerant used (e.g., moisture or condensation from melting ice, or pressure build–up from dry ice). 2. Obnoxious odors and noise. 3. Protection of animals against death, or protection of animal specimens against spoilage, taking into account the following: 1. Expected time in transit. 2. Expected temperature in transit (weather conditions). 3. Packaging, including insulation against impact, heat, cold, and preventing suffocation. 4. Ability of an animal to survive without food or water during transport. Live animals must be transported without food or water, because liquids, moisture, and loose foodstuffs can cause damage to the shipping container, other mail, and Postal Service equipment during transport. 5. The ability of the Postal Service to provide transportation and delivery service. Mailers are urged to work with postmasters in providing advance notification of shipments of live animals. The Postal Service advises destination and transfer offices when any significant quantities of animals are moving in the mail. Postal Service field personnel should consider a 4–hour time limit on the period during which animals (especially bees, day–old poultry, and adult birds) may move in a regular, closed Postal Service vehicle.

I think what is needed is parties that wish to adopt these 2 ferrets need to step up to the plate and the person wishing to rehome these little ones needs to decide who and where these little ones need to go. Arranging transport is possible but knowing when and where is an absolute necessity. I know and as Sherrylynne can attest if all the ducks aren't in a row, the whole thing falls like a deck of cards and the little fuzzes are the ones that loose. So if those parties who have stated that they were interested perhaps they should pm the party who owns these little lost souls. I believe that according to one of the posts all vaccs are up to date so only an adv test would be necessary to fulfil the requirements for transport. It would be absolutely fantastic if we could pull this together and these little ones got a forever home ciao

I'm currently looking to find out the cost. If it's affordable I'm game! I'll take them. Let me find out from them how much it costs and I'll let you (the owner) know.
