They are about 1 in long slivers (about 1 cm wide? Very thin..)
Trixie ate from the bowl on her own, no holding or anything! Yay. There were some chicken slivers with chicken & beef gravy and some freeze dried sprinkles. Pixie was just not in the mood to eat, refused to be hand fed and just through a tantrum over it so I'll try again with her later. lol
What little brats! (at least Pixie)

And I had a great new years! The fireworks scared the girls (but they always do lol). The neighbors had a bunch of fire crackers and huge fireworks so it was a loud night lol.

Yaay! If Trixie will continue to eat on her own keep that up. Also, go ahead and start decreasing the amount of gravy, and increasing the size of the chunks very very slowly. Rather than making the chunks longer though go for thicker of course. At this point if you want to we can split the switch so that Pixie can still go at her own pace without holding Trixie back. Do you feed them in separate bowls at all? If so decrease the gravy and increasethe chunk size for Trixie, but keep it the same for Pixie until we can get her eating he chunks a little better. Let me know what you think of that and we'll go from there.

They both did really great for dinner. I was really lazy because I have to go to school today so I just chopped the chicken in small chunks and placed them in the cage. Both of the girls attempted to each the larger chunks without hesitation. This morning, most of the soup is gone an several pieces were eaten. I'm going to just a little soup some chunks this morning and see what's left after school. I'm so excited for them!

Yay! Progress! Here's the post from our Skype conversation I said I'd post in regards to starting on bone to help with their teeth (for anyone else reading so they know the context lol). Well go ahead and we can give bone a try with Trixie at least, and see how Pixie does. Take the Ulu and use it to chop the bone. Use chicken wings, they are easiest and be VERY careful of your fingers! Chop the entire wing but don't cut the meat all the way through. Use several hard, repeated chops until you have a pile of bone shards and meat that looks ground. Then you can cut the ground looking pile into smaller chunks. It mixes the bones and marrow with the meat so they are more likely o eat it and it is pretty easy for them to handle. Very little chewing involved, esp if you REALLY chop it.

Hey I saw your videos! Yaay! javascript:add("%20 %20") Looks like they were chomping it right up! So looking at your chunk size and the chunk:soupies ratio along with our conversation about bone and teeth the other night gave me an idea. Let me know what you think, and how it goes if you try it. Go ahead and chop up a chicken wing or two like I explained. Butcher them just chop chop chop until they are a pile of mush and all of the bones are just tiny bits. Then slice the mush pile into chunks about the size of what you are feeding them now, and mix that into the soup gravy. Then you can start getting some bone into them, while still working on the chunk size.

Okay, that sounds like a plan. I'm hoping to go shopping this weekend, so in a couple days I should have some wings to work with. I'm so proud of them. They weren't really hungry tonight, but I'm trying pork slivers for breakfast, in case they're bored with chicken.

Okay so I have HUGE news. Pixie LOVED the pork chunks.. She pretty much demolished them. I am so impressed with her. I really wasn't expecting such a reaction, but boy did she enjoy breakfast.
Unfortunately, Trixie was really not feeling it. I'm not sure if she just didn't like the pork, or if she just wasn't hungry. She ate a couple chunks, but wasn't very enthusiastic about it. I will try again at dinner tonight (or maybe skip dinner and wait until morning???) I'm hoping to get the chicken wings either today or Sunday. I have a video of Pixie chomping down on the pork that I'll post later. Pixie actually returned to the food bowl after she ate in the cage (which she never does). I'm so excited to take the next step.

Yaaay Pixie! (and yay you!) That is awesome! I am excited! I think skipping dinner and seeing if Trixie is any more motivated for the pork for breakfast wouldn't hurt. Just keep it up, you guys are making great progress! Let me know when you get the wings.

Okay so a quick update. The girls have been doing okay on the pork chunks. Yesterday I went shopping and got chicken wings. I smashed them with a hammer this morning and hopped it with my Ulu and then poured gravy all over it. Pixie ate a couple pieces of the meat and skin, but wasn't too into the bone =( I left it in the cage so we'll see what they do. Trixie didn't want anything to do with it.

With the Ulu, you should not need a hammer. It will go right through the bone no problem. How chopped up were the bones? Try to get them as fine as possible, and perhaps make the chunks even smaller than usual.

Okay so a quick update (as usual lol). The girls are eating small cubes without gravy. They enjoy stashing them and waiting until they are jerky I am doing chicken wings again in the AM. I think I dulled my ulu out a lot (I have a glass chopping board which probably dulls the blade really fast. I also sometimes chop on plates, which probably isnt good either.) I usually hammer the wing to get the bone in small chunks and then use the ulu to get the bone fine. I then use scissors to cut through the meat. I've been leaving small chunks in the cage and they are getting eaten. They seem to have to chew on them quite a bit, but I guess they're just building up their jaw strength. I saw Trixie eating the chunks today, so I'm happy.
