So at first my landlord was alright with me bringing in my ferrets into my new apartment, although it has been 2 months now and I think people are starting to complain (I have no idea why....I keep my apt very clean). But now they are trying to make me rehome my babies....I really dont have a choice and a shelter is my VERY LAST resort (I dont even want to think of that as an option).
So I am wondering if anyone is in need of a ferret or two...I have 3 but one can be seperated, although 2 really should live together, they are closely bonded.
I thought this forum would hopefully be my first good try...to find them good homes, this is the most stressful thing ever
I live in Chicago, Il....please let me know if anyone is interested...I am willing to drive a great distance for the right home!

Did you know there's an organization called "Ferrets Across America" that helps with transport of ferrets in need? They do not transport breeder ferrets, purchased ferrets, etc. They are geared toward rescue and adoption situations -> helping ferrets in need of a home, etc. I recommend contacting them. They may be able to help. pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/Ferrets_Across_America/-jennifer

Thanks for the transportation offers....I think I may have found someone in the city who is interested and I would still be able to keep in touch and maybe see them, but I am still unsure. I just signed a 12 month lease so getting out of it is not an option sadly. I was just seeing if there was any possibility with anyone on the site before I make any finite decisions
I will look into this transport you mentioned Jennifer, I am willing to pay the way in case it works out and if anyone is interested in 3 new babies.....although I know its alot to ask!

hmm.... i COULD MAYBE take them. I'd have to ask my parents, but we live over 10 hours away and across the border. so i don't think that would work very well.... but if you would rather have someone on the form have them....?

I mean I really would love for them to be with someone on the forum just because I know you guys as great people and I know how everyone is dedicated to their ferrets and their health so that would be ideal...and I could keep in touchs....I mean I am willing to drive pretty far to make sure they get a good home...

I'm thinking that Ferrets Across America is a volunteer-based organization that does not charge a fee. I know the organization helps get ferrets out of CA if the owners get caught...(an underground railroad of sorts). If you can't find somebody local, it's worth looking into.

i've also heard that about Ferrets Across America. they should be able to help you. sometimes if you offer to pay a little more rent per month they will allow the animal to stay. they did that to my friend and her cat. are you cleaning their poop at least twice a day and washing their bedding? i think it is their poop and their bedding that stinks. ferrets themselves don't smell that bad if you keep the poop areas and the blankets clean. i had to deal with this issue with my former landlady, i live in miami and i rented from a woman who lived in california of all places. when i rented the place i told her i had a hamster. lie. i had a dog and ferrets. anyway, when she found out that i had ferrets she gave me crap over it. i told her that she'd have to stab me first and then try to pry my ferrets out of my cold dead hands. i was just going to look for another place and lose my security deposit. whatever, i did not care at that point, because if she gave me crap over my pets then i was sure that i was going to get picked on for other stupid things. anyway, the b#tch eventually backed off.

Did you get them written in the lease? I know I did that (just in case the apartment changes management, and I will make them do it again next year too). Though, it sounds like we have all kinds of animals in this complex.
Check the Chicago tenant's law too, before you rehome! There may be nothing your landlord can do.
Let me know how things turn out. I am in Michigan and have been toying with introducing a second ferret to Paulie (if he is still social at age 3). I don't think my landlord would let me have 3 more--and budget wise that would be unwise. But if you cannot get all three to someone together, there may be a possibility after the new year that I could take in one of the business (again, Paulie has been an only ferret for two years now, so it would almost depend on him and the apartment complex). I would have to make some decisions and number crunching, as I haven't adopted to ensure I can afford vet bills (Paulie's IBD alone keeps things interesting).
I think it would be best if you found someone local to "foster" all three. I would hate to be in the position to rehome. Seriously though, if you have it in writing the tenants law should be on your side!
Sorry they are putting pressure on you!

it is sad when people forget to log in again to tell you the end of the story. i wonder if she had to get rid of her babies.

I am so sorry you are going through this. It sounds like you have neighbors who delight in just causing problems because someone told them "they have ferrets" *gasp horror* and they believe ferrets do all manner of awful things that they don't. Is there nowhere else you might be able to move to? Even renting a room with someone that allows them? I wish you were closer. I fostered a friend's ferrets for her when she could not keep them at her mom's house for a couple of months. I definitely would not mind fostering again, especially raw. We are a part of a landfill diversion program so we take what meat we need for the same fee every quarter, and it wouldn't be a big deal.

Well I still have all three of my babies....I just tend to ignore the people around me, I am in a lease for a year so I cant do anything about moving....oh well I am just going to play dumb for now and try not to draw any attention to myself haha.
Candiceboggs, thanks for your offer, I really appreciate you wanting to help! We will see how this goes....Ill keep updating, things seem pretty quiet right now so lets hope it stays this way!
