It stands to reason. Watch a baby cat who's been taken away too young, or lost it's momma. It starts with the whole kneading thing and then they start sucking on their blankets. These kittens are often affected even as older cats. It would stand to reason that some ferret kits are affected in the same manner. The taking of furbabies from their mommas at such an early age and subjecting them to that type of abuse. I'm sorry that's what it is, no animal should be put through the trauma of an alter or a spay...much less a descent at that age. The descenting is a horrible surgery on it's own and most vets refuse to do it because of the trauma it inflicts unnecessarily (my poofers smell the same as the rest of my babies). It's also a high risk surgery. Like all babies, some are affected more than others and seek comfort in different manners. For many of the ferret babies they seek the comfort in oral fixations. Watch a ferret that gets hold of a forbidden item (especially soft cat toys). I was amazed while watching Captain Jack with his toy (he can only have it when he's curled up in someone's arms so that he cannot destroy his toy). He loves that toy, nuzzles it, chew on it, rubs it on his belly....sucks on it. ciao

Yes, the whole process they go through is ridiculous! And sooo sad! To be ripped away from your mommy is bad enough, but then to go through all the rest of it...

Yes, I felt so sorry for little Oz. As I've said before, he was my little chewer. He was 8 weeks old, and fit into he palm of my hand. The poor boy aside from chewing sucked on Shiloh and Fiddler's ears. It was sad to see, because I knew he was soooo young. He still should have been with his mommy.
And Hiro, who never chewed, cried-he never cried until he met the other three, and when we took him away from introducing him to the others, he whined and cried. I know there are health issues, but we really couldn't not let him sleep with the others after that. we took them all to the vet to get a checkup just in case they could have gotten something from him, and he was fine as was everyone else. I remember Shiloh grooming him from the first day she met him, just like a mom.
