X-rays/US aren't standard procedure. Unfortunately, these animals were used as nothing other than surgery test subjects for med students. They come in young, acclimate to living in a cage like that, get spayed to test their abilities on incisions, sutures, etc, then a few weeks after when they are all healed up, they get euthanized. Repeat for next year - they do this every spring.
I would also like to vent on here what kind of a joke research labs are - file keeping is supposed to be a main priority and that's what these jerks sticking up for it claim up and down. YEAH RIGHT. I was finding unfiled paperwork, or it being in the wrong place from the '70s this summer. I asked to see her records from when she was still a lab animal, so a few months ago - plenty of time for them to be filed away somewhere safe. The tech just looked at me like "..... yeah......" and changed the subject. I know this woman, I worked with her all summer, she is a load of crap, and I know she lost their paperwork so I can't even see what they weighed a few months ago to see how much weight she lost.
It's the same thing everywhere though, so it's not just to diss this particular place but the whole industry as a whole. It's a really mean, cruel joke.

Out of curiosity, and I don't know if this is something you could even access. All of them were lab animals for the first 9 months. Wouldn't they have taken any xrays or even ultrasounds of them during that time? If there is, it should show whether or not her kidneys/spleen/heart were like that previously. great thought-excellent place to check
