I was wondering if it is ok to use original scent dawn dish detergent to wash the fuzzies bedding in. It would get rid of the extra oils on the bedding that make it smell I would imagine.

As long as there are no essential oils, I don't see why not.

I actually dont know if it does or not. There are no ingredient list on the bottle. It says that it is 100% phosphate free also. I know that phosphate is a nono.

I use All Free and Clear (their unscented detergent) for all our laundry including the ferret bedding. I have not had any trouble with it. I don't use dryer sheets or fabric softener though. Their bedding is usually soft enough.

I use Purex free or whatever it's called :\ and vinegar to wash, and I'll sometimes use cling sheets in the dryer (they're the equate ones, and don't really have a strong smell LOL), but usually I don't.

What kind of essential oils are found in laundry detergents? Will it just say 'essential oils' on the ingredients list or is there something else I should look for?
The one I've been using says: Cleaning agents (biodegradable anionic and plant-derived nonionic surfactants), solubilizer, brightening agents, and preservative.
It's made by Melaleuca which is supposedly all environmentally friendly but I don't know if "powered by nature" includes essential oils.

And where can you get really gigantic containers of baking soda - I have 5 ferrets and go through laundry like CRAZY, plus I use a little for their litter box too. I got a 13.5 lb bag at Costco the other day. Maybe I'll just use that instead of worrying about which detergent to use.

Normally, it will just list "fragrance". Unfortunately, most fragrance is made of essential oils. You could always write the company to find out.
