Yeah-Shiloh doesn't get that worked up about it, but apparently some ferrets hate it! I'll keep that in mind for the future furkids in my life.

Shiloh is my girl, and she is the only one who cares about squeak toys. However, I get mixed messages from her regarding her attitude on them. I have to wonder if they stress her out. When we first start squeaking it, she runs to us, which isn't out of the ordinary, I have heard. Then, as we squeak it, she starts dooking. Good, right? But then, she turns from seemingly happy to hissing. Today, she even bit hubby. We just scruffed her and calmed her down; she could have thought that he was being antagonizing, or maybe she thinks it's a distress call or something from toy and she wants to 'save' it. I have no idea. When she wrestles the toy from us, she hides it neurotically, which I also understand is normal ferrety behavior, but she doesn't like when the boys get a hold of them and play with them when she isn't. Is she being normal in the mixed happy/aggressive behavior? Kahlua has a similar reaction, she will come to the squeeky and play with it a little- however, after a few seconds she will start to attack the hand squeeking the squeeky - as though she is trying to hunt it or save it or.. im not sure. With her, I stop when she starts freaking out and I put the squeeky away. Its mainly used in emergancy situations (i.e. she found a new place to hide and we begin getting worried, a few squeeks and out of nowhere Kahlua appears) Our gib, Mojito, isn't quite as interested, if he is close when it sounds he will sniff it.. thats about as far as that goes lol

Sadie will come to the squeaking sound... and she just stands there, like she can`t quite figure out whats making the sound. If the dogs have one of their squeaky toys making noise she comes close and lays down and just watches them. Zeke will come to the sound, but also seems to not know it`s coming from the toy and gets bored and leaves lol
Anything with a bell on it though look out he goes nutso for.....

One thing that is good to do is to treat them whenever they come out of hiding for a squeaky. That's how I found Athena when she got herself stuck behind our large bookcase! It was a case of "squeak", and hear the scrabbling. Squeak and scrabble. She was trying so hard to come and get her treat, we were able to locate her.

Akiko's deaf so she doesn't react, but our boy Mokkun gets really worried about it...he rushes over and puts his paws up on us and tries to get it, but he's not really playful about it...even his facial expression gets worried, he just wants us to put it down. As soon as we do, he sniffs it, looks kind of confused like "Why did I bother with that??" and wanders off, but it never fails to concern him. He's a really nurturing boy though, when Ovana was itchy from growing hair back he'd groom her with his teeth, when Tadakichi had a blockage and wasn't eating he'd carry food over and set it next to him before cuddling up to reassure him, and one time when we were at the park I slipped in some mud and he rushed over and put his little paws on my knee like he was making sure I was ok...maybe he was a mom in a past life

Justhannah, that is absolutely precious. He was either a mom or a nurse in a past life.

Almost all of my sable ferrets go crazy when I squeak the toy. The worst is Dozer, he gets SO upset, he'll make this low pitched very soft dooking noise and chase it, then he'll wrap his paws around my hand and lick obsessively. Sasha will lay on top of my hand and nuzzle the toy, Kodiak, Tasha just sit there and look at it.. and Anks will make the same noise Dozer does and then lay on top of it. Gizmo comes out from where ever he's sleeping and he'll look at me like, really? that thing again? lol he doesnt chase it but he'll keep an eye on what I'm doing.

This is kind of funny. My Yogi tends to lose it with squeakers (and he's a sweet, goofy boy 99% of the time). The few times I've been stupid enough to squeak their toys (Pixie loves it), he's nailed me in the upper arm and then when I had stood up, chomped down on my calf, both drawing blood and leaving great big bruises. OW.
The sound makes him want to kill things. Mostly whatever's holding the toy.
I'm thinking it was fortunate that, by the time Yogi came, we no longer owned gp's!
