That's good. He's learning that there are rules and you are where the privileges come from. That's great. ciao

When I bring the rabbits and guinea pigs litter pans downstairs to clean them he will dig in them and eat the poop. Is there a way to get him to not do that? He makes a huge mess and when I put them on the counter to prevent him from making a mess he jumps to try to get them and Im afraid he will hurt himself.

Have you taught him to stay, to do a down? You could get him to recall (which you've done) put him in a down .... on his bed? and teach him to stay. He's doing things he finds pleasurable, even though you find them disgusting and messy. So, the same as you taught him how not to dig at your door or to dash up the stairs to your room, you now have to teach him not to dig in the litter boxes for his "crunchies" No one has ever taught him manners (probably one of the reasons why he's in rescue to begin with). Now, you have that responsibility...to teach him to be a canine good citizen Make it into a game, make it fun and that he gets rewards for behaving and he will do this for you. ciao

How long is dependent on how consistent you and your family is about the messages that you send him and how driven and bright he is. Now, I'm sure that you've heard all the wonderful things about the JRT breed. I've got a video for you of a clicker trained JRT. This is possible for you to, it's just a matter of finding a clear message. Everything that this little fellow, in this link, does comes naturally to a JRT and is normally an annoying habit. This dog's human has turned those destructive and annoying habits into something useful. That's what you want to do with your pup. That's why I said to think of what you want him to do. www.youtube.com/watch?v=P9Fyey4D5hgciao I have seen that video! haha I LOVE it!

That video was adorable! Too bad I'm so lazy or I'd train my dog to do cool tricks
