1. Where did you first learn about natural diets for ferrets?
I first learned about natural diets from Ferret.com forum. I’ve been an active member there since June, 2009.
2. Please describe the type of diet you would like assistance in switching your ferret(s) to. Be sure to include if you are interested in feeding whole prey (live or frozen-thawed) and if you are wanting to FULLY switch to a natural diet or PARTIALLY. If you are unsure what kind of diet you want to put your ferrets on, please express that and we can help you find the best type of natural diet for your ferret.
I’m still unsure if I want to partially switch my ferrets to raw or fully switch them. I’m open to any suggestions
3. Why are you interested in switching your ferrets to a natural diet?
I’m interested in switching my ferrets to a raw diet because I KNOW that it is a healthier lifestyle for them. I want my babies to be as energetic and as happy as possible. I believe that switching them to raw is the answer.
4. Do you understand that switching your ferret to a natural diet can be a lengthy, arduous process? Its not an overnight switch. It can be a commitment of several weeks or even months. Your HF Mentor will be more than happy to assist you in switching your ferret(s) to a natural diet, but you need to be equally as committed. If you aren't willing to tough out a potentially lengthy switching process, or if you have major life changes approaching (baby on the way, moving, starting school, getting married/divorced, etc) then it might be a better idea to wait on switching your ferret's diet until you have more time. Are you willing to make the commitment?
Yes, I’m willing to make the commitment. I’ve been considering switching my ferrets to raw for about 8 months. The reason I was hesitant was because my ferrets were older, but now that I have two new babies - and one of my older ferret’s passed away due to juvenile lymphoma - I’ve decided I’m ready to make the switch!
5. How many ferrets do you currently have? What are their names? Ages? Genders? Do they have any health problems? Are they overweight? Underweight?
I own 3 ferrets. Sookie is my sable female; she is 15 months old and weighs around 1.8lbs. Loki is my silver male who is nearly 6 months old. He weighs a little over 3lbs. Pip is my 4 1/2 month old albino female who weighs about 1.8lbs. About a month ago, I noticed that my two girls were suffering from birdseed poops, and Sookie was losing weight, so I took them to the vet. The vet gave them antibiotics for 2 weeks. Their poop is much better now. I started supplementing Sookie with Dream Treats from Wysong to help gain her weight back. She loves them, and she seems much happier (another reason I want to switch to raw). Other than that, none of them are suffering from any health problems.
6. What diet do you currently feed your ferrets? (Please include all treats, supplements, etc)
My ferrets are fed a moistened kibble mix of Drs. Foster and Smith Natural and 8-in-1 Ultimate Crunchy. Sookie is given one Dream Treat a day to help maintain her weight (none of my other ferrets will touch the treats). I drizzle Ferretone on their food before serving. They are also given Laxatone to reduce the risk of hairballs. Currently, Sookie and Loki have acquired a taste for Gerber’s Chicken Baby food. Pip eats it, but she is still giving me trouble.
7. Have you ever tried to switch your ferrets to a natural diet in the past? If yes, what happened?
No.
8. What additional information about yourself or your ferrets would you like to share?
I’m a fulltime college student. I’m majoring in Business and minoring in Marketing. I don’t have a lot of time for socialization, so as you can imagine, my ferrets are my life They’re my best friends!
Sookie is my oldest ferret and one of my first. She's an inquisitive acrobat/gymnast. Her buddy, Marley, died of JL. I got Loki and Pip to keep her company.
Loki is my fat boy who is quite the lil' spitfire. He's the ultimate pig and will probably make the switch easily if he sees another ferret eating it
Pip is my docile sweet pea. But don't let her cuddle bug personality trick you...she's EXTREMELY stubborn to change. I have a feeling she's going to give me the most trouble during the switch.
9. How often during the week do you have access to a computer?
I have access to the computer from the late afternoon till the late evening.
10. Please post a picture of each of your ferrets (if possible).
