Heather,
Right now, I have no concern about the Deslorelin wearing off. (2 - 3 months from now may b a different story). My kids seem to show a ever-so-minor behavioral change every couple months. Right now they are well under control with the Des. Their last hormonal surge was around Christmas time, and they have been quiesced during all of January, which is when their hormone level would typically be higher.
Back in Ceember I was concerned about the "surge", and I was thinking I may have an issue on my hands. My brats don't even know their siblings have ears right now.
I don't know how the delivery of meds works in long-term implants works, but I do know that my holistic vet said that implants do not deliver meds evenly.
Meach is now shedding (FINALLY - she missed her entire winter coat due to the implant)....her fur is coming in thick. Kachina is showing signs of getting ready to shed as well. It's more difficult to see new growth on an albino, and you can't see any change in skin color due to fur that has not yet emerge from the skin.
I just did a bunch of annual blood work on Tonto, including the adrenal panel, so we'll see what comes back. I will also be doing adrenal panels on the others. It gets expensive, but short of cutting them open, it's difficult to tell what might be going on. I find ultrasound to be less reliable than blood work for early adrenal.
I do quite a bit of "unnecessary" blood work because it helps my vet and me correlate symptoms with degree of disease progression. This hopefully helps us develop the best possible treatment plan.
