I think Heather, Sherrylynne and even Giuli should be able to participate. I'm sure there's a way we can judge pictures with a small panel of judges such that everyone can participate. It's also possible that everyone who submits a picture must be a judge. That way, you always can vote for your own fert's picture.
Another thing that might be interesting would be that no ferret can win 2 times in one year so we can get an assortment of fuzz in the calendar. just some thoughts.

I'm interested, but I don't currently have ferrets, so if there's a really specific theme I'm not sure I'd have anything to submit. I have a lot of pictures of my previous ferrets though (and ferrets from the pet store I used to work at), but they may not fit the theme. I'm not sure how I feel about the anonymous idea though, but only because if I were to submit one of my professional photographs and not just a snap shot then I watermark my images, which has my logo on it, so it wouldn't be very anonymous. I don't post my professional images without watermarks because ProBoards has the right to do what ever they want with the stuff you post (as stated in their TOS) and there is way too much art theft out there (I'm not implying any of you would, but there are people and companies who scan google images etc. and take what they find and use/sell it) Either way, now and in the future when I have ferrets again I am definitely interested in participating in contests. I hope they will be reinstated! - Jools

I dont see a point in the whole "annonymous" thing. This is a small forum, most of the ferrets here are pretty well known.
Members should be able to post their picture in the contest thread (one picture limit per member, per contest) then at the end of the contest, have a "poll" thread, where all the pictures sumbitted will be posted in that thread along with a poll(using the usernames of the members that submited the pictures), to vote for their favorite.

I like the idea of having everyone vote. Voting can be open to everyone - even people who submitted a pic and mode - via a poll. I think that is the fairest way to do it. This is how it is done in the Horse Forum I am on also and it seems to work really well. I also think that making it anonymous is unnecessary, as stated, I think many people here will recognize each other's ferts regardless of how "anonymous" we try to make it. lol Thirdly, I agree that mods should be able to participate too.

We have a monthly photo contest over on ferret harmony, and yes, polls are open to all for voting, and they are not anonymous either. Seems to work rather well. One more suggestion? For the monthly themes, the winner of one month helps to pick the theme for the following month?

Not too big of a fan of themed photos. I don't have a camera currently and any pictures I have probably won't fit into a theme. I don't like the idea of forcing a ferret into a position or fake background just to fulfill a theme requirement. I'd rather the photo be more natural

A "Themed" contest doesnt mean you have a to dress them up and "force" them to stay still for a picture. A "Summer" theme would be something like a picture of ferrets playing in the sun or relaxing in the shade. A "Water" theme could be ferrets playing in the water, getting a bath, etc. A "Sleepy" theme could be ferrets sleeping in weird/cute positions, etc. Theres nothing "forceful" about it.

Agreed! The "theme" right now over at FH is "opposites attract". It's simply pics of your ferrets with a friend of a different species! Here's the link so you have an idea what I mean: ferretharmony.com/viewtopic.php?t=4498

I'd love too be a part of the photo contests! the only problem...I suck at taking pictures, even of things that stay still! I'm photo challenged!

Whooo hoo. Ok Guili we did our part....how about it? Set us up with rules We could set the first one to start Sept 1 to close by the end of Sept. That should give us enough time to do photos and get the photo contest set up with the particulars ironed out and get everyone participating. How about a theme guys? Any ideas? ciao

If you dont have a picture that fits the theme, dont enter. When you have a picture that fits that months theme, submit it, simple as that! Im sorry you dont have a camera, but thats no reason to not have a themed contest. You cant really have a photo contest without some sort of theme. Whats to judge the pictures against? You submit a cute picture of fuzzies playing under a couch, and someone else has a picture of a cute group of fuzzies naping together... how are you going to judge those pictures together? They're not realted (other than both having ferrets in them, which isnt really specific enough). As for the first theme..... Fun in the sun?, Water Weasels?
