I guess I used a poor choice of words They looked like shelter ferrets which are usually older and kind of not so much muscle mass and fat. They looked healthy, just older and a few possible adrenal. There was one that looked like it's hair was growing back. They were all active and ran off the stage joyously I don't know if they are his ferrets, I just know he has cats and dogs. They looked well cared for and active in other words. I don't have any Uncanny on me, but now that know you are ok with it, I'm ordering some today. For now, they are getting the soup at night still, and Reks is spoon fed, but sometimes doesn't eat a ton in one sitting, but other times does. He's not consistent When I get the Uncanny, the mixture will be 1/2 a packet (about 1.5-2oz rehydrated), 1oz meat/bones/organs (right now I just have 6oz rabbit and 1lb mice left), fish oil, and a very small amount of pumpkin/squash. I'm ordering both beef & egg and pheasant & fruit (I take out the peas, carrots, and blueberries). I really shouldn't be talking about this right now, I'm so hungry! Does this sound good?

Sounds fine to me, as long as you take the obvious fruit and veggies out! If it helps to get their interests piqued, there's nothing inherently wrong with that. It's a good segue food, for sure. Let me know how things go!

She started this habit since I put kibble and soup in where she'll go naw on their orbee bones (these tough rubber dog bones that are impossible to chew through) Watch that orbee bone VERY carefully, they are not impossible to chew through unfortunately. Mine had their for months with no problem but overtime with all the gnawing they started to puncture it and take little bitty chunks off. Rolo was devastated (see siggy it was her fave) but it just wasn't safe anymore, it was only a matter of time until a blockage. I wish they were tougher.

Thanks for the info Weloveourweasels! I always check all their toys for damage because I'm always worried about blockages. I'm still waiting for the wysong uncanny Spiritualtramp, just to let you know I haven't disappeared The only businesses that ship fast are Olive Green Dog, CHP, and Hare Today, but of course non of them sell uncanny

I swear everyone, except CHP, has the slowest shipping EVER! Oh! I didn't post pics when I signed up because a.) needed a new USB cord to put the pics on the computer, b.) I couldn't find the pictures on Derek's computer for the life of me, c.) he kept forgetting to send the pics to my computer (they are back to back ) so I just posted them from his I know this isn't important or anything, but here's the pics if you want to see them! (mind our pictures, our camera sucks and I'm used to using "old" style cameras (not digital!). holisticferret.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=ferretpic&action=display&thread=4144&page=1

Ok, I checked my email, and it said the Wysong Uncanny was delivered today. Hopefully it's actually at the apartment office and not at the post office (even when it says "delivered", it isn't brought to the apartments right away ) I'll let you know tonight! Hopefully it is, because I'm ready to get them switched! Sorry about all this.

Well s*** Derek checked the mail for me when he got back, but he wasn't able to check the apartment office to see if it was there (he didn't get home in time). We will go by the office tomorrow, and hopefully it's there or else I'll go on a murderous rampage crazy ferret lady style Just kidding. I will be upset though

LOL I hope it's finally there! I get the same way when waiting for things in the mail.
A few weeks back, I made a huge Hare Today order. I had forgotten to change my address in the system though as I've moved since my last order. So, I had to contact Hare Today and have them reroute the package to a central processing terminal (it's shipped UPS) and drive an hour and a half between class and work to pick it up, hoping that it hadn't melted yet. I was a crazy ferret lady then, let me tell you. When I arrived at the processing terminal, the UPS people couldn't find the package. We searched the building for almost an hour before it was located!
So -- let's hope it doesn't come down to that for you!

LOL, I have already had things shipped to our old apartment TWICE since we moved in August I can't believe you looked for an HOUR to find your package! I would have been boiling mad too! My uncanny order didn't get shipped out until the lady called me saying the it wasn't working when she was trying to ship it out. She read me the address I gave her, and my zip code was that of the last apartment Anyways, I finally got it Saturday. I was so happy, but then upset again because I forgot to defrost the ground mice Today it was finally defrosted. I was really excited and had high hopes, but was ready for a let down which is understandable with my guys I got home tonight after being out all day from work and from celebrating my mother-in-law-to-be's birthday. She turned the big 5-0 which is the new 40! Anyways, I was tired, but ready to try the uncanny with ground mice which I was expecting to be let down. BOY WAS I WRONG! Sorry, I'm just happy! Here's why! They ALL surprised me tonight with their reactions. The mixture was 1/2 a packet uncanny with 1oz ground mice and rehydrated (this made it about 50/50 uncanny to ground mice which was higher than I wanted to start with because I wasn't sure if they were going to even taste it!). I brought it up, let them smell it, they got excited and came rushing down thinking it was just uncanny I think Here's where it got weird, but good! Sari smelled it and was the first to dive in! Yay Sari! Pandora sniffed it, walked around it, sniffed it, walked around it, sniffed it again, I put some on her nose, she licked it, made a face, then walked around some more! Pan is usually the one that will eat ANYTHING and try ANYTHING at least once! I put a small amount of Vivify (Totally ferret emu oil fatty acid supplement that they like) and then Pan slowly and cautiously started eating it, then dove in with Sari! Here's the most shocking part. Reks the pickiest of them all finally decided to come down and eat after he was done stretching I got the spoon, grabbed him, put it in front of his face, and he started eating it enthusiastically after trying it! He ended up eating the MOST out of them all! He didn't want to eat it out of the bowl when I put him down, but continued eating enthusiastically from the spoon without me having to hold him! I was shocked with everyone's reactions, but so happy because it was FAR more successful than any attempt before AND far exceeded what I expected if they did eat some! Tomorrow, should I step it up a notch and put 1.5oz, or try 1oz again just to be sure they are eating it consistently? I'm so happy! This might actually happen this time thanks to you and the uncanny AND it might happen faster than expected with this route as well! Thanks so much for having so much patience with me!

Tonight I made the same thing (1/2 packet uncanny w/ 1oz ground mice), but I didn't add so much water as last night (it was a little thicker today) and added fish oil instead of Vivify (which they like just as much, and to vary it up a bit which I do anyways with their fatty acids when I feed uncanny). Sari didn't really eat much and was put off a bit by the thickness (she likes it really watery ). She did eat a bit from the spoon, but still not a whole lot (about 2 spoonfuls). Pan dove in right away (once she likes something, she will always eat it ). Reks ate from the spoon again, but not on his own. He still ate good, but not a whole lot (especially not as much as he ate last night). Pan ate the most today. She actually ate the leftovers I left in the cage overnight from yesterdays (I kept their Ziwipeak out for the night). The advantage I had yesterday was that they were really hungry (they were going to be out of food before I got home yesterday, so they went about 4 hours without it). Tonight I took the ziwipeak out at 8:30 (which is when I got home) and fed them the uncanny/mice at 11:30. I think I just need to wait a little longer after i take their ziwipeak out before feeding it, and add more water like I did yesterday until they get more used to it. I'm still happy that they are at least eating it It's going pretty well imo!

Wow! That is great! Keep the water reduction phases slow at first, until they are more hungry or more willing to eat weird textures. But this is a great step and definitely surprising to me too!

Tonight went pretty good! Sari and Reks needed some convincing, but both ate from the spoon again. Derek said he is so eager to switch them, he thinks we should only offer ziwipeak early morning (7am) until 4ish pm, then uncanny/ground at 7 or 8pm for the rest of the night (no ziwipeak until the morning). I think it will work out ok. Pan has been eating it even with the ziwipeak in the cage Hopefully Sari and Reks will catch on that they aren't getting ziwipeak at night (obviously if they aren't eating until morning, I will have to go back to only pulling the ziwipeak out at night. Also, because Derek is a substitute, he isn't making as steady of an income as me until he starts teaching (hopefully by August, but could be this spring!) He thinks it would be better to switch them to Nature's Variety/Primal (we can get this locally unlike everything else) until he is making a steady and increased income so we can do Hare Today (which is ideal for them IMO). When I'm out of the ground mice (it should last two weeks with what we're doing), we're going to do the NV and Primal for a while. I do still want them to get used to RMB's even when eating ground for their teeth. We can still do that with NV/Primal being the staple (in place of Hare Today). Ok, now I'm being redundant Does this sound good? Ultimately they will eat Hare Today, just not until we can afford it.

That's a good plan if you ask me, but do keep RMBs in their diet a couple meals per week. I use both things I can buy at the grocery store (because it's by far the cheapest route) and the more exotic things, I buy from Hare Today (mice, rabbit, chicken hearts, duck and pheasant) but I do keep pork, lamb, chicken, CGH, turkey, bison, and livers from the grocery store as a steady part of their diet. So if you are looking to save some money while Derek is finding more steady work, I'd rethink the NV/Primal route. Those are PRICEY and once the kids are eating full raw, you'll quickly realize how expensive it is. They do make great things to have around in a pinch, and I do use NV and Bravo brand medallions/grinds between Hare Today orders but realistically it's financially a hard diet to pull.
Anyway do try removing the Ziwipeak overnight. My guess is they will quickly start filling up with their raw meal and not even missing the ZP!

I just did some quick math to figure out what really was cheaper for us (I was curious because I really didn't know ) So, I figured out it'll only be cheaper to buy NV/primal by about $10, which isn't much. Now, the feed store we can get them at sells things for SUPER cheap (this is where we used to buy them EVO kibble for only $15 a bag!) The estimate I did was based off of online stores prices (which can be pretty expensive sometimes!). I'll take a look tomorrow how much cheaper they are there which will drop the price even more significantly! Part of it is that Derek doesn't like having to order it online when we can get foods locally We do have a nice HEB here that sells quail, CGH, duck, and turkey RMB's when we get to that part I think I can even go to farmers market and get some rabbit RMB's. That would be nice I'm thinking ahead So, tonight they ate pretty well! Pan dove in right away as usual, Sari wasn't wanting it until I got the spoon out (oh no, another spoiled one ). Reks also ate from the spoon, and much more this time compared to last night. I wet it down some more after they were done (I do this to make it last longer through the night so it doesn't get to thick), and Sari actually went up to the bowl again, and started eating! So, Pan and Sari will eat it on their own, even after the "meal time" is over! Reks will hopefully start eating it overnight too. He does eat a significant amount more food during the night than during the day. Hopefully this will make him give in to his hunger for a midnight snack Thanks for the help. I'll try to figure out whats cheaper tomorrow when I can actually see the prices at the feed store. I'll let you know. By no means am I dropping the Hare Today. I think it'll just be easier during the switch to just go out and buy it. I hope you're not upset about this.
