Ok, that soup sounds great. I will have to pick up some of the items, but it is def something I want to try. So today was a very long day, but I did get my order in . I put some of the turkey treats in their dishes and am going to figure out what I want to do with the rest. I think I will give each cage a bowl of the Wysong ferret dry (maybe add a little water) and see what happens. Plus I got a samples of several different items to try also. I will let you know tomorrow how it went.

So today, I made up fresh soup of gizzards, hearts, salmon oil, Wysong Archtype 1, water, Totally Ferret, and 8-1 crunchy. I made sure to blend it super smooth. I also brought them a chicken wing. Noah went to town on the soup and Hammy tried a little. Athena went to town on the chicken wing! She was all over it like white on rice! I had to hold onto it to make sure that kids didn't go try to stash it somewhere, so I let each ferret sniff it by bringing it to them. They all seemed interested but didn't go after it like Athena did. I got Ollie to lick some of the soup off my fingers. Same with Princess and Murphy. I put some on Koda's mouth and he is such a pretty boy! He had to wipe is mouth off! silly ferret.

Well it seems like things are off to a great start with your crew and you seem to be doing wonderful with the variety! Chicken wings are a favorite for my guys too (once they got use to them! )

Well, the same today. I put some of the soup out for them and sprinkled some sprinkle stuff on it (can't remember the name). I also put some of the S&C stuff in their kibble dish for them to try tonight and tomorrow.

Well, most of the ferrets like the dry Wysong and S&C. Noah and Athena are my best raw eaters. I can get the other to take some off my finger, but they don't go to town like the other two. So I am still continueing to offer it, plus the dry.

Well, my 4 ( Murphy, Hammy, Koda, and Athena) all seem willing to eat the commercial raw. Their bowl is empty when I get home. The fosters (Ollie, Noah, and Princess) seem a little more picky about the commercial raw. Which is kinda weird since I have seen Noah go to town on fresh raw soups. We are still working at it. I am going to get some livers this week end to add to the mix.
Is there anyway to secure a chicken wing in the cage? Also, how long can I leave it out, before it gets gross?

Thats great, your well on your way!! I used to put hangers through them then attach to the cage, although I found it to be too messy and not worth it since they would rip them off (I used the pear shaped hangers for shower curtains then secure the chicken on them them hook onto cage wires) Maybe you may have more luck than me though!!

Heres the list of "timing and meats" Here are some general guidelines assuming the meat is cold (thawed, but taken from the fridge)when served and the ambient temperature us 70 degreees. (and food is not sitting in the sun, near a heat source, etc.) Wet Kibble: 4-8 hours Ground meat: 12 hours Freeze-dried Diet (served wet) 12 hours Commercial Raw frozen diet 12 hours Meat chunks: 16 hours Bone-in meat: 24 hours Whole prey (meat exposed): 24 hours Whole prey (no meat exposed) 36 hours Freeze-dried diet (served dry) Over 1 week (the primary concern is palatability rather than bacterial issues) I hope this helps with any questions you have with how long to leave meat out...I figured I'd give you the whole chart since its nice to have

Still working on the commercial raw. It is going ok. I am getting some livers this weekend to add to the soup mix. I will let you know what they think of it.

So I added the liver, but at this point I am still super blending it so it is all mush. I also bought some of the baby meat beach nut stuff, that I am going to try. Got so more of the S&C treats since all the ferrets and dogs seem to like it.

So last night, I let all the furkids out and was missing Murphy. I went to the cage and he was still in his hammock. No biggie, I brought him out and let him taste some of the beach nut baby food (ckicken). He then went back into the cage and went back to sleep. I have been still leaving kibble in the cage, but do you think that trying to add the raw (commercail or otherwise) could be making him ill?

No, at least not likely but it sounds like something else might be the matter . Is he eating, pooping?? Keep an eye on him, keep me posted ciao

I didn't think so. I am being super careful too with the actual raw food. I got him out earlier when I let the kids out to play. When I went to the cage he was out and about and seemed okay. But he put himself back to bed after about 20 minutes and this was the first I had let them all out today. I did the skin test to check for hydration and he was a little dehydrated so I decided to let it be a swim day for kids and put a tub of water that they could swim or drink or whatever they wanted. All the kids were interested and Murphy did drink some water. I don't know- he has always been a special ferret. I have had him to the vet so many times that I think they think I am loony. His blood work that he just had last month came back completely normal.
This was one of the reasons I wanted to start this program- to get him as healthy as possible. All the other kiddos seem to be doing okay with the raw food and almost all seem very interested in the baby food (except Ollie, my oldest- he is a fighter!). So I am continuing on watching and offering.

I have a boy like that. He will go off his food, get lethargic...I took him to the vet, some bloodwork done, nothing Hand feed him, he perks up and away he goes again . This time he may have met his match, only I know sort of what's going on. The guys got a bit of a flu bug.....poor Loki got it. Thor his snugglemate, was sick for a bit, lethargic, liquid poopies...he's doing ok now. Loki's still under the weather. Having to hand feed him. He's still really lethargic, being hand fed, but...poopies are ok, he's showing some enthusiasm over his food just not on his own. He killed a mouse today but only ate half the head. I'm hoping that he will come around, if not it's off to the vet again . The problem with ferrets is so many different diseases with the same starting symptoms... You're doing what you can....can you make a sick ferret healthy...maybe, but at least you can help him deal with the illnesses that come his way. I firmly believe that these sickies are better able to cope with the illnesses that are thrown their way. Good luck, a healing candle is lit for Murphy. ciao
