So, I'm pretty much a total dork, I don't photograph well at all, and I've given up on keeping the pictures from happening. So I've turned in the opposite direction, if my friends and I take tons of dorky pictures in a day, there's bound to be at least one of me that I like, or at least make me laugh enough to forget how awful I look These are really recent, taken on May 9th at the Davis Whole Earth Festival. I had a Zoolander moment, and then was being smiley in the sun! I have crazy fun with makeup sometimes, because I'm a little out there like that And sometimes, my hair is magenta-y Also, I love my pets, even if it shocks or scandalizes them sometimes! Me: Muah! Loves ya birdie! Sparkle: Omg, camera-operator, save me!

I miss the magenta hair so much, unfortunately it hasn't been that way in over a year because it's impossible to find a job around here with crazy hair! Not that it's really possible to find a job right now with the economy the way it is anyways though!! I totally miss Sparkle too, she was an adoption that fell through because the teacher that decided she would no longer be a suitable classroom pet because she had turned into a moody wanna-be parrot mama turned around a few weeks later and decided that if she didn't let the kids handle her as much, she'd make a great science classroom teaching tool because she had started laying. My whole family had gotten so attached to the silly sweetheart and started thinking of her as our own because of the news, only to have her taken right back! She had a slightly "defective" crest so she always looked more like she had raised her antenna when surprised, it was so cute!

Sparkle couldn't talk either, girl cockatiels, for the most part don't. Since in the wild they're not the ones coming up with awesomely elaborate mating songs, they don't have the same vocal capacity as males, it's the same with a lot of different kinds of parrots, the boys are usually better talkers/singers than the girls. All she was good at was screamin' to let us know she was up in the morning and the blanket over her cage wasn't fooling her anymore. Also, she'd scream when you'd get on the phone; she wanted to know why you were talking to the shiny device instead of her, I think, lol!
Gandalf, on the other hand, was the boy cockatiel that we watched over and nursed back from plucking himself silly. Grumpy little man was a singer and could say "Pretty Bird!", whistle cat calls (I posted a video of it in my other pets thread), and he learned how to imitate our telephone while he was staying here!
I love parrots almost as much as I love ferrets, they've got way more personality than most people ever give them credit for!

My parents were so surprised by how vastly different the two cockatiels we watched were, and how much personality they had! They often said that Sparkle acted just like a little feathery cat!
