I realized that you all introduced yourselves but I have yet to do so lol
My name is Giuli, pronounced Julie. I am a college sophomore who resides in Saint Louis, Missouri. I'm a pre-veterinary student, majoring Biology and minoring in Chemistry. I moved to Flagstaff, AZ my freshman year of college (2006-2007) to attend Northern Arizona University, but I moved back home because the cost was too high to stay out there I currently attend a local community college but I plan to transfer to a local university to finish my undergraduate degree.
My future plans include attending vet school and becoming a vet that focuses on integrative medicine and natural nutrition for dogs, cats, and ferrets. One day I would like to publish a book or two on natural nutrition for ferrets and their owners. (But I'll just stick with a website for right now ) If vet school doesn't work out then I would like to pursue a career as a wildlife biologist. My goal would be to work with the federal government to conserve our countries native species. If I went this route it would be my dream to work with wolves or on the Black Footed Ferret Recovery Program.
After living on my own for several years, I have moved back home with my parents with my two ferrets, Mizu and Fugue. Both males who are around 2 years old and my 2 year old Papillon (dog), named Copernicus. He, like my two ferrets, is fed a natural diet.
I have owned 10 ferrets in my life (Lugnut, Hendrix RIP, Willow, Weezie, Wednesday, Midas---all rehomed, unfourtunately. Samson and Delilah RIP, Mizu--currently own, and Fugue--currently own) and all were raised in a natural way (raw/whole prey diets, minimal vaccinations, natural lighting, minimal caging, plenty of outdoor exposure, and lots of enrichment activities.) My ferrets have ranged in age (6 weeks-9.5 Years), health, gender (6 boys, 4 girls), and personality (sleepy to totally spazmatic), so I have a fair amount of experience with raising an assortment of ferrets on a natural lifestyle..
My hobbies include: Spending plenty of time outdoors (with my ferrets and dog, of course!), reading and researching various animal related topics, playing World of Warcraft, frequenting ferret forums, traveling, listening to classical music, watching Japanese anime with English subtitles (my favorite series are: Bleach, Naruto, Full Metal Alchemist, and Samurai Champloo), camping, hiking, and spreading awarness about PROPER nutrition for animals.
So far, my writings on natural ferret nutrition can be found of various other forums, including the ferret.com forum and ferret village. I have also written for the American Ferret Association's quarterly publication, The American Ferret Report (AFR). My article on the importance of natural ferret nutrition was featured in their winter 2008 issue.
I created this forum and I am working on the Holistic Ferret website in order to help other ferret owners learn about natural care for their ferrets. I realized that searching for information on natural ferret diets/care can be overwhelming and intimidating, especially to beginners. Difficulty obtaining good information often discourages many ferret owners from trying natural diets and care for their ferrets. I felt that if all the information and resource links were in one, well-formatted, easy to access place, more people would give natural diets/care a chance, something I believes is vital to the health of ferrets everywhere.
I hope you all enjoy your time here at the HF Forum. I am excited to open the HF website this august and I am working tirelessly to get it up and running.
Life can get crazy for me sometimes and I don't always get to log onto the forum as much as I'd like, but I do the best I can and in my absence the forum is run by an amazing team of mentors, moderators, and my fabulous Co-Administrator, Heather. I couldn't run this place without them!
So thats about it.
