No, what I was going to say is there seems to be a pattern.. But to me it seems like all white ferrets have the tattoos. Weezer has his and is deaf, Lillian and Ravi have them to but they are not deaf. -~Ketlin But where they are placed might mean something, not just the fact that white ferts have them on their toes... eh? Just a thought, since Pilot and Tank have opposite ones?

I just checked my blaze over after reading this. I had never heard of the toe tattoos before and he didnt have any. I'm not sure what breeder hes from since he has a green line tattooed in his right ear and he didn't come with any paperwork as a kit from the store unlike marshalls.

OK so I annoyed my babies and checked them all over. Loki being the oldest at 2 years and she can hear has no toe tattoo. Rolo can hear and she has a toe tattoo on her front left foot on her middle digit paw pad what would be our middle finger. Mr. Bean is deaf and he has a tattoo on the same toe but on the right front left foot.

Only checked Kiwi because she is a Marshalls, and Apple is a PVF. Kiwi has the 2 dots in here ear and a very obvious blue dot on her left front foot, 2nd toe. In fact, I'm surprised I've never seen it before, I almost thought it was something she stepped in becaus the dot is smeared! Ow!

Hmm... how do you tell if a ferret is bling, because Taccato suddenly started to act a bit blind, or deaf-something. hard to explain, but how do you tell?

Has anyone ever emailed Marshall Farms about the toe tattoo? If so, what kind of response did you get? I'm asking, because I emailed them about it and was sent a reply telling me to call a number to discuss it. LOL, is it just me, or does that seem kind of weird? Why couldn't they just send me a response through email? Hmm...maybe there's more to the toe tattoo than we all realize.

Ok, I called them and the lady (I talked to Denise) said that it's just used for "internal referencing" (it can be used to identify the vet performing the surgeries, but it doesn't always mean that). She said all of their ferrets have the toe tattoo, but that it can actually rub off after time. I don't know about that part (the tats rubbing off), because I didn't think tattoos could rub off, I know they can fade and change colors over time, but not rub off. Well, anyway, that's what she said, they're just there for reference purposes within Marshall Farms and doesn't really mean anything once the ferret has left their farm. It has nothing to do with research, the deafness, german bloodlines, etc, it's just for their use. If any of you really do want to call them, I'll pm you the phone number they sent me or you can email them and I'm sure you'll get the same response. I don't know if it would be appropriate for me to announce the number right here.

Yes, I agree. but did you talk to them about why they say their food is healthy and clinicly proven to be the best, but its not??? Because I am mad how them simply lie and say its the best...

I don't know FOR SURE where any of my ferrets are from since they are all rescues. Ernie has two ear tattoos and a toe tattoo. He must be from Marshalls. Ramona has two ear tattoos and no toe tattoos. Didjeridu has no tattoos at all! The vet said he is probably from Canada... ?]
My only toe-tattooed ferret is silver and isn't deaf. I read online that the tattoo on the toe was to identify who did the spay or neuter and descenting on each ferret.

luxuriousferret - Sorry, didn't feel like getting into a food debate at the time.
animalsgetrevenge - Didjeridu could be a Path Valley ferret. PV doesn't tattoo their ferrets. Some people have said they have Triple F ferrets with no tattoos, but according to Triple F's site, they do tattoo their ferrets (maybe they just started this recently?). Ramona is probably a Marshall's ferret as well.
