I can't believe how some people treat animals.
My friend Ashley (also a ferret lover) and I were going bridesmaid dress shopping for her wedding and when we were finished we took a quick detour to 50 Fathoms so she could buy a new litter box. Normally we avoid that store due to temptation (baby ferrets) but they have the cheapest litter boxes and it was on the way to her house.
So we go in the store, briefly play with two very cute babies and make to leave. But before we make it out Ashley wants to look at the snakes so we head to the back of the store. Now these guys know that we like ferrets, between the both of us we've bought seven from this place. So we're heading to the back and I hear one of the employees shout, "Hey! Where's that ferret?" At first we thought he was joking with us like we were trying to steal one of the babies. We realize this is not the case when he walks to the back where they keep the feeder animals and gets a step stole to take down a dirty aquarium from the very top shelf. I nearly cried when I saw what was inside. Inside was a dirty, skinny, nails so long he couldn't walk ferret. He had been dropped off there that morning by his previous owner... Apparently they forgot ferrets needed food and water, even when you're on vacation. This boy used to have a cagemate but after five days of no food and water the other poor soul didn't make it.
So the guy asked us if we wanted to take him. How could I say no? I had the means to help so I did... and now somehow I have 8 ferrets. @_@
I took him to the vet yesterday and he checked out fine other than being very underweight and having ear mites. He weighed in at 1lb 10.5oz... a normal weight... for a small girl or a kit, not a full grown boy. He weighs the same as my little Ada, a four month old kit. The way he's gobbling down food I'm sure he'll quickly pack on the pounds... he might even be bigger than my Riley when he gets his weight back. He's very lovable despite everything he's gone through and is always climbing into my lap. The thing that made me decide to keep him rather than trying to find him a new home was that HE GETS ALONG WITH OLLIE. (For those of you that know how well Ollie normally gets along with boys you'll know that this is a miracle. If that wasn't a sign that I should keep him I don't know what else would be.)
Isn't he beautiful?
Ada and Charlie weigh the same amount.
This is him looking better... just two days of eating has helped although he's still painfully thin.
