Do you know the nature of the tumors/where they are located. etc??? There are some natural rememdies that have been successful in slowing or reducing tumors in ferrets, cats, dogs, people, etc.
Some of the red clovers and medicinal mushrooms have been effective against cancers. I've used both on ferrets and have never had any bad side effects.
I used timmies tonic on my boy who got lymphoma at the age of 3 (he was also give a light chemo). He lived to be over 7. The toic has red cloverad is based upo a protocol that has been tudied at the mayo clinic. I don't know if the chemo , the tonic, or the combination of the two were responsible for his recovery - but he went into remission and the lymphoma ever bothered him again.
My Tomichi girl developed a small tumor (hyperplasia) on her gum. I gave her reishi mushroooms, which cleared up the issue. I've also given maitake and other medicinal mushrooms to my ferrets. SInce I've never see side effects with these treatments, I see no harm in trying them.
If you can find a holistic vet that treats ferrets, you may be able to get a custom treatmet where a traditional vet has no answers. You ca also contact my holistic ferret vet. He does provide online and/or phone consultations, but he's not cheap. Here is his name/website:
Dr. McCluggage (Longmont, Colorado)
wellvet.com
I bring my kids to Dr. McCluggage for an annual check-up with the goal of nutritional elvaluation and dietary refinements. Their regular ferret vet does their bi-annual checkups and treatments.
If you think you may be interested in a consultation....
I would check out the web site and email them with your situation and what you're looking for in the way of treatment, etc. I would ask about the possibility of phone or online conulttons, cost, etc. I would then follow up with a phone call a day or two later if I have not heard back from their clinic.
Please let me know if you have ay questions about aythig I've posted here - I'll be happy to share my experiences. You may also want to seach the FHL archives (Ferret Health list) for natural and holistic treatments.
