my babe Joe, is about 3 and half years now, maybe more. but I've noticed lately that hes been lethargic. he doesn't really play anymore, just run around for about 10 minutes and goes to sleep. i don't know what is up with him. today when i took him out, he didn't really play at all. and because i was freaking out i was watching him a lot, and he would lie down often. like he had run a mile... he has been eating. it surprised me, but he did take raw food today, he never did before. (i don't think he had eaten lots before that though....)
so i don't know whats going on... should i take him to the vet or not. i think i will if he keeps it up for a few more days...

I say take him in. If his behavior has been markedly different from his usual for a few days I would think that there's something going on. What and how much has he been eating each day? Is it possible he ate something he shouldn't have (blockage)? Is he pooping and peeing? What does his poop look like? Is he flat ferreting a lot when he's out to play?

I would take him in and get a blood sugar check, lethargy and lots of flat ferreting can be a sign of insulinoma, your post isn't really clear, is he eating raw or not? He may not be eating enough, have you tried giving him some soupies every 3-4 hours and see if he perks up. He may just be being lazy or bored as well, really hard to say but better safe than sorry IMO, it doesn't take long for a ferret to go downhill.

What's his weight like? You mentioned that you're starting a switch. You're not doing tuff love are you? Allowing him to go without food? If he's not eating enough, he may exhibit insulinoma type symptoms. He needs to have kibble available to him until he switches. If this isn't the case then you need to get him to a vet asap. This is not something you want to play with. Insulinoma seizures are scary stuff. If he does have insulinoma you can still switch him, you just have to be careful. It's not that difficult you just have to make sure your little Joe has his kibble available while he's doing the switch. It takes a little more patience ciao

well, he did go without food for one night, but when i put the raw food in eat ate it! so, yes, he is on raw food. i THINK he is eating enough. he is pooping and peeping. i had cleaned their cage out and he hoped right in and went in it.
he feels lighter then before, but that could just be him losing his winter fat...
i think I'm going to bring him into the vet if he's still like this tomorrow. (well make a appointment..)

i took Joe into the vet today. he has a tumor in his spleen. its way big, and since he reacted with his distemper vaccine we don't want to put him under in case so were going to go with the medicine and plus the surgery and all that is going to be over 3 grand if we did and the vet said that he wouldn't have a great chance to pull through something like that. we got some prednisone or something like that. we have an appointment with the vet again soon. and see if thats helping.

I'm so sorry for wee Joe.....poor wee boy. I will light a healing candle. If the pred is going to work for him you will see the difference. It will also work to increase his appetite (at least it does for most ferrets). Enjoy your little furbaby and love and snuggle him a lot. ciao
