I don't know why, but today I was looking at the Dr. Foster & Smith website. I saw something about compounding meds. I clicked on ferrets which gave a list of common meds ferrets might be on (including pred!). For those that have to give meds to their ferrets, especially pred, here's a great option for you to make it more enjoyable! They can compound it with flavors (they have a ton!) and in different forms (gummie chews, tongue melts, and bite size biscuits to name a few!). Here's the links: List of ferret meds that can be compounded (scroll down) www.drsfostersmith.com/General.cfm?c=9547&gid=586Forms and flavors www.drsfostersmith.com/general.cfm?gid=268&c=9547&FAQ www.drsfostersmith.com/general.cfm?gid=272&c=9547&Anyways, just thought that was cool

When Paulie had his surgery, they put all his meds in liquid form and flavored them. He loved the Baytril (molasses flavored) and adored the Rimadyl (Sp? Painkiller) with the banana flavor. I'd rotate a med he hated with one he liked as a treat and it made it so much easier.

Only two meds one of mine has been on were Amoxi and Metacam. She loved both of them. To the extent she'd try to steal the med syringe after she licked all of it up

I can vouch for chicken-flavored pred. Trial thought it was fantastic. If your vet wants to prescribe something, be sure to ask exactly what form the stuff comes in! At the emergency weekend vet for Trick, they gave me $80 of antibiotics mixed with pineapple juice I could've gotten the same prescription in a flavor he didn't DETEST for less than half the price here at DFS, but the emergency vet handed it over without even asking me, and I was in no mood to argue. I don't have any experience with the other forms, like ani-melts or gummies... but that's a good thing, right?
